Great Bradfords good cause and effect essay topics Football Club was started in 1978 by Maureen and Melvyn Baker, originally playing on the Fairview Estate at Great Bradfords School. The club play in Red and Black after Maureen’s favourite team Manchester United. The club has a solid reputation through Braintree and Essex for delivering a good standard of football to its members and were rewarded by Essex County FA by being awarded the Charter Standard in 2008 something that will have been maintained for 10 years next summer. The club has endured some tough times in recent seasons and in the 2012/13 season reduced to a low of 5 teams in the club. This gradually rose and we sat at 7 teams for the 2015/16 season exploding to the current 11 teams with us for 2016/17. The 2017/18 season is looking very promising with new teams in the pipeline including the re-forming of Great Bradfords Girls and our Saturday Men’s Team after a long absence.
Unfortunately during the 2014/15 season the club lost the lady that began it all, Maureen sadly passed away in February of 2015 after 37 years at the helm of the club as Secretary and Treasurer. Maureen was one of the most admirable and respected women within the game and her passing reverberated throughout the district with leagues and clubs saluting and paying tribute to a lady that committed to providing grassroots football. The club now runs in her memory proofread my essay proudly baring Melvyn Baker as our Life President along with Trevor Harrod, one of Great Bradfords longest serving managers. They are joined by Karen Pleasance as Life Vice President, a lady who supported the current committee in various roles including Child Welfare and Treasurer for 14 years until she left at the end of the 15/16 season, although Karen is still around for support for us!
The club currently has a group of hardworking volunteers led by our Chairperson Sharon Mills, please find out more about our teams and the work we do on our various pages. We are always looking for new people to come on board too so if that may be you get in touch!
